"Nothing is where we left it"

Dispens

With a very little output in the past few years, post-covid Dispens looks back on an 80s-influenced remix for Isla Ola’s darkwave banger „Augen Körper Herz“ and a three-piece space opera called „Ghaxl Tzenpali“, released as a part of the Empire of the Four Moons sampler, dedicated to the overlooked sci-fi-epos by Enko Landmann. There’s still a hard drive full of electro- and breakbeat-rooted, club-oriented, unreleased tracks, yet getting back into the game with ambient and experimental music seemed more fitting – given the circumstance, that Dispens hosts a live-concert series for the beforementioned genres called SLOWROOM in his hometown Dortmund, Germany as well as giving more space to being a partially very introverted mind.

The EP stands in – partially harsh – contrast to the approach on Everything Is Still Here. Opening with „We have to walk from here“, Nothing Is Where We Left It still has the „handmade“ aesthetics seen on the first EP with it’s usage of keys and cymbals, yet there’s a deeply melancholic, almost pessimist vibe, just to shift into a display of stressful living conditions in „why use the fuel for driving“. Driven by a reversed drum loop and heavily manipulated field recordings of the area where Dispens at the time used to live, „why use the fuel for driving“ is a challenging, yet hypnotic excercise. Closing with "If I believe you, then who believes me?", there’s still a lot of tension, but now on a more meditative level. Carried by singing bowls, 2If I believe you, then who believes me?" is a sub-bass-ridden nod to drone-oriented music.

The EP was released together with it's accompanying "positive brother" Everything is still here on a limited, quickly sold-out tape with risograph printed cover, stickers and download code.
