SLOWROOM #012 is gonna take place at a different space than the usual mono Listening Café; also it's a tuesday. That's it with the differences – apart from that guests can expect the same idea and concept as in the past.
Otto Lindholm is the solo project of Brussels-based double bassist and composer Cyrille de Haes. His work blends minimalism, drone and experimental music, using the double bass as a singular sound source. He has released music on labels such as Gizeh, Houndstooth, 7K!, Bedouin and Sub Rosa, and has performed internationally at festivals and venues including Rewire, Maintenant, Tumult and Bozar.
Jean D.L. is simultaneously a musician and a video artist, but the approach he has to organized sounds and organized images seems reversed – his music, either when he plays the guitar or when he uses field recordings, is an imagetic and somewhat hazy soundscape, while his musically structured films try to provoque abstract emotions through the titillation of memories and fantasies.
‘Apophenia’ is the raw and powerful result of those nightly studio sessions. The duo creates dark soundscapes and drone moments. It´s not continuously obvious which sounds are created by guitar or double bass, because the musicians push each other into fascinating sound dimensions. So the album title is a very fitting description for the sounds you will hear.
